What do you fantasise about before falling asleep? As the President of Overthinking, this no doubt involves an elaborate version of your future that has the tiniest chance of happening. For me, my thoughts turn not to a particular event, but to a lifestyle. Perhaps a vision of gifting my father his dream car on his 60th birthday, or (when I’m feeling most ambitious) a vision of leaving a London penthouse and being chauffeur-driven to a yacht. All before sailing around the coast of Monaco.
Alright, these may be overly ambitious and an indulgent make-believe, but they represent your idea of perfection. Your ideal life being lived in an ideal way. Whilst these dreams may be years away (if at all), you can still incorporate elements of that happiness into your own present day. So, to all my over-thinkers, here are 4 ways to make your “bedroom fantasies” just that bit more attainable.

Savour Small Items as Small Victories
Is your dream apartment or luxury skincare routine still an unattainable dream of yours? Well while you’re still saving towards your grail pieces, it does no harm to get smaller pieces from the brand that fit your current budget better, to get a slight taste of that dream. Doing this gives you more of an appreciation for the overall brand, and makes your grail piece even more appreciated when it does arrive.
Doing this doesn’t have to break the bank! You can sweep up a beautiful collection at almost any price point. And it allows your present to have a dose of guilty pleasure – without losing sight of the end goal. Even small items can transform your space and your mood. So instead of waiting years for your penthouse with custom book-nook, incorporate throw pillows and fluffy blankets in your own private space that will make you feel like royalty during your wind-down time. Small items are indeed small victories, savour them!
Create a Wishful Thinking Playlist
Music has the power to change your mood and set an ambiance far from actual reality. So harness the power of your playlist to set a mood matching your ambition. Dream of living in the Big Apple, or spending your weekends jet-setting to luxury beach resorts? Well, add a few “audio ambiances” to your night-time routine, such as the calming ocean waves of Thailand, to take you on a holiday without the jet-lag!
Even better, craft a playlist that makes you feel like you’re living your best life, and play it when your mind decides to wander to your perfect reality. As for me, I’ve named my playlist “SW7” after the London postcode I want to live in, and have filled it with music that makes me think of never-ending nights, tall skyscrapers, and pretty girls wearing expensive fragrances – the perfect symphony to fall asleep to!

Take Positive Steps to Influence your Future:
Small wins are great for your present happiness, but we want you to eventually achieve everything you’re dreaming of. And that requires hard work! No one will believe your dream life as much as you do, so block out the nay-sayers and focus on your mission!
Dream of a perfect and happy relationship before tucking yourself in for the night? Manifest it, by calling into existence the qualities you’re looking for in a significant other. And don’t forget to fix the weaker areas in your own offering while you’re at it. You’d be surprised how people who learn to love themselves attract just that – more and more love!
What if your bedtime mind-wanderings involve travel or a certain lifestyle? Well, this, unfortunately, involves money. So keep working hard at your job, and explore a side-hustle to supplement your dream! There’s nothing better to motivate hard work than realising your dream on the other end. So keep your head down and keep pushing – it’ll all be worth it in the end. You just need to take the first plunge!
Dream your Future into Existence
A happy moment is never a wasted moment. Keep dreaming, and keep some self-care time to do what makes you happy. Although I am very far away from ordering my own Range Rover, that certainly doesn’t stop me from configuring one online and ticking all the bells and whistles! This may seem like a waste of time to some, but to me, it is absolutely therapeutic. Online “window-shopping” (harrods.com is a particular weakness of mine) and planning holidays far above my pay grade does wonders for my motivation. You should see my productivity at work the next day! Focusing on the future is great, ladies and gentlemen, but never forget to enjoy your present. Keep up those bedroom thoughts, it’s what makes you, you!
I just love your last point! The mind is a powerful thing. There is much truth to the saying: if you can believe it, you can do it. Keep on dreaming 🙂
Whether you believe you can or you can’t, you’re right. (Can’t remember who said that.) I’ve found it’s when we start chasing our dreams that we realise happiness is found in the chasing as much as in achieving the dream itself. Great post Shelly 🙏
I love the last point!! Lovely post!! There is lots of truth to the well known saying: if you can dream it, you can do it. Let’s keep on dreaming 💭✨💪
I love this! I try to celebrate the small wins when I can and having a motivational/positive playlist definitely help 🙂 x
That’s amazing thanks for sharing! You’re doing life right if that’s how you’re doing it 😊
Awesome! I am going to live at the beach again one day; but until then, I’ve decorated my home in beach colors and have my seashells on display. It keeps me joyful while I work to pay off the bills that stand between me and the lifestyle I hope for.
Haha love it! That’s the spirit! Dream it into existence 🤩
Wow such a lovely post! We can’t achieve something we can’t dream!
Thanks for reading Poorw! 😊
Love the post – all 4 points are so valid! I love point 1 – sometimes we are so focused on the big wins that we totally ignore the small wins – the small wins count too!!! Going to remember this through the day. 🤗❤️

Great inspiring post
Thanks for reading 💖
I’m not gonna lie, I often dream of starring in the movie adaptation of my favorite novels or what life would be like around that 😂
Until then I will just round up all the songs that fit the novel I’m currently fantasizing about into a playlist.
Haha that is so cute! You never know, maybe one day they will turn into movies and you will be cast as the lead. No dream is too big 😉
I haven’t read much into it but I totally believe the power of dreaming things into reality/visualisation! It is so exciting to think that the world is our oyster and we can influence good things to come out way! x
Indeed! If we don’t focus on the barriers, who is to say they exist? 😉
Thanks for reading Alice <3
