Hello blogger friends! Have you been struggling with getting your posts to rank on Google? Do you even know what goes into getting the posts to rank? When I started blogging, I assumed that I could just write any way I saw best and my posts would automatically rank on the web. Now that I have been at it for quite some time, that theory makes me giggle just thinking about it. You see, what I had never thought about was how or why some posts are favored over others. I thought that my grammar had to be good and that was it. If you are equally confused, I’ve got a great SEO guide for you to try out.

What is SEO?
Some of you may be wondering what I am rambling about, so let’s take a step back. Search Engine Optimisation, commonly known as SEO, is the act of polishing your posts in a way that makes it very simple for bots to crawl through your site. The idea is that the posts need to contain quality information about a certain topic while still being readable and comprehensive.
How do you make your posts SEO-friendly?
There are several factors that go into SEO that can initially be overwhelming. Putting it simply, SEO includes how long your sentences are, how often you use keywords, and even how to pick the correct keywords! It is also important to add images and make sure they are linked to your blog post. Did you know that there is also the right length for your blog posts? And the number of words per paragraph actually matters too! Phew…!
I recall that on my first attempt to tackle this beast, I felt like giving up. The internet is a sea of information that any new blogger can easily drown in – myself included. But after overcoming all of the emotions, I committed to learning more about SEO. During that time, I had also committed to 25 days of Blogmas, so I had quite a bit of room to play around with my new skillset. During that period, three of my posts ranked on pages 2 and 6 of Google! And then I saw some traffic coming in from Yahoo, Bing and Ecosia because my posts had ranked on page 1 of these search engines.
How long does it take to rank?
The thing about SEO is that it works on a few different parameters. You can make your posts SEO-friendly and get them to rank almost immediately. You can also make your blog SEO-friendly and get it to rank as a whole. How you choose to proceed of course depends on the nature of your site. For example, bloggers would need a post to rank high whereas a business would want their site to rank.
Since it is fairly easy to make sure that your posts are SEO friendly, I will be daring and say that you could have a post rank on page 1 tomorrow! Ok not tomorrow, the search engines need a few days to index the posts. And of course, you need quality content for that to happen.

Have been an SEO for over 15 years. I have some points here. A writer’s job is to write good content. If they have to think about SEO while writing it is the engine’s fault?
