Loving this series Shelly, its such a good insight for people who aren’t parents yet. More people need to talk about how its not sunshine and rainbows and that is in fact hard!

Shelly, this was soooo good and I can attest to just about everything you’ve shared here! I’m on the other side of this with my three sons all just about grown. However, I wish I would have been more selfish and asked myself those questions before I’d ever gotten pregnant. Of course, you know that I had my kids at 18yo, so I never gave myself the opportunity to be selfish. But guess what?! I’m doing more and more of that now! With the youngest being 16yo and driving his own car, it’s my time now!!! LOL!

Thanks so much hun! It’s definitely turned out to be a plus that you had your kids young and can still enjoy things now because you too are still young and energetic. Be selfish and keep taking pictures so that we can enjoy your journey 😅

Everything you have said here is right on! As your kids get older, you get more “me time” again but it’s different. I tell my girls that I would be retired by now if I didn’t have kids. They know I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world but it’s a reality. So don’t worry about your daughter reading this when she gets older. I’m sure she will appreciate your openness and honesty.

Thanks, Michelle! Part of me wonders if you really would’ve retired because you seem to enjoy doing things and being busy… this blog is an example of that!

True. I don’t know if I will ever fully retire but I will definitely step away from the full-time grind at some point.

I admire you for trying to balance your life as a woman, mother, wife, plus career. The way you wrote this shows your dedication to these areas of your life and are not neglecting anything. Much respect to you. I hope you always have the energy to stay on top of it all!

Enjoy every moment. Mine are now teenagers- no longer hugs and kisses, rather the banging of doors! and the snidy remarks….. having said that,….. a full night sleep is awesome! hehe

    • Shelly DS says

I’m definitely not looking forward to the teen years!! I’m holding onto the hope that my little angel will always be sweet and loving 😅 now that she’s finally sleeping well, I can’t imagine going through all of that again!
