Questions by Anjali from Chasing The Maximum Life Blog:
Overall, how are you handling the quarantine?
It’s strange to say but this is the break I needed from the world. I’ve managed to use this time to do things that I love, including starting a blog to share my writing with the world, exercising, bonding with my family… there is just so much I can’t even list it all!
Have you violated any of the restrictions? If yes, what rule(s) did you break?
I haven’t had the chance to. Well there was that one time that I visited someone without a mask, then I got covid and got to my senses. Now I don’t even dare leave the house unless it is necessary, I make sure to avoid touching my face, keep my mask on and sanitise as soon as I leave. As my mom used to say, “Once bitten, twice shy!”

What viral recipes have you tried during the lockdown?
Nothing at all. I’ve actually gotten lazier during this lockdown and have been cooking everything in the air fryer or eating cereal and bread. It doesn’t help that I have a picky eater of a toddler who doesn’t care for my fancy cuisine… one day she loves it and the next she just wants a naartjie, so to keep my ego in check, quick and easy has been my go to.
What activities have you missed the most during quarantine?
I miss going to CrossFit even though I used to wake up at 4:30am to make it to my class on time, get back home shower, get my toddler ready then head to work before 8am. You would think that the extra sleep is doing wonders, but I have noticed that for the past month I have spent all of my free time working on the blog and I think it’s because no one is keeping me accountable with the exercise.
Do you wear a mask when you leave the house?
Yes, yes, yes! I hate it, but I do. Getting the ‘rona was not fun at all and I wouldn’t want to get it again. I know they say you might get immune once you’ve had it, but I’m not taking my chances! It sucked! As mild as it was, the feeling of not being able to just walk to the fridge or even smell the food was just horrible.
Are you an essential worker? If yes, what is your job title?
Yeah, fortunately or unfortunately? Can’t say exactly what I do for obvious reasons, but my job title is associate director.
How do you exercise during the lockdown?
So initially I was going a bit crazy with my own CrossFit workouts which included hill sprints, lots of burpees, weighted vests and heave kettlebells… I also did a lot of pushups and upper body training so I could keep my strength for pull-ups. Now, I walk to and from the fridge- very slowly might I add! Oh, I also work out my fingers 😀

Have you subscribed to any new subscription services since the lockdown started?
I’m really bad with technology and social media, so starting the blog is the coolest and best subscription I’ve made all lockdown.
What did/does your daily schedule look like before the pandemic started?
Hmmm well life had so much more structure before the pandemic..
4:30am: wake up, throw on exercise gear, brush teeth and head to crossfit
8:00am: start work
5:30pm: rush to pick up the little one
6:00pm: make dinner, bath the tot,
7:15pm: toddler’s bed time process begins
8:00pm: bond with hubby
9:30pm: bed time
Nowadays it feels like everything is jumbled. I sometimes find myself working at 9pm, blogging in bed before 6am, sleeping very late, etc
Do you think that the pandemic is getting better or worse?
I don’t think it is getting better, I think we have just accepted it for what it is and everyone is trying to continue with life despite the pandemic. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost family members, friends and loved ones because of this virus – I can’t even imagine how that must feel. At this point, I think we all want life to become somewhat normal, for various different reasons of course. Hang in there, it will happen!

I’d love for you beautiful humans to answer the same questions 🙂

Congratulations on this! 🤩 waking up 4 30 am feels so hard to do and I could imagine you pushing through the day and still maintaining your routine 🙏
Thanks Elle 🙂 It definitely wasn’t easy but caffeine had become my best friend! I don’t think I can do it anymore though… it’s so much nicer to stay in bed till the absolute last minute 😀 What’s your routine like?
It’s quite the opposite from your routine. Before the lockdown I was studying and was staying at my apartment. I didn’t have any structured routine because it’s either I study, go to class, and then, other non-academic stuff which came in variations. But when lockdown hit, I panicked and felt like I was out of control of the things that happened, so then I started blogging and made a routine I did everyday. In the morning I eat bfast, check emails, and meditate. And then I spend the afternoon watching online classes for my blog, and then making blog drafts. For me it just felt like I needed to have a routine to stay sane during lockdown 😂 Was helpful for me tho 😊💕
That sounds like a normal and sane thing to do! I’m glad you’ve found something that works for you. It sounds nice to have structure and some form of a routine 🙈💩
Glad the pandemic gave you the break that you need. I wish you are able to get back to the exercising slowly. What is keeping you?
Oh no! I knew I was forgetting to tag someone. Amending now, I want you to reply too Micah 💖
And to answer you, work is keeping me busy… I work till late these days
Really enjoyable answers. I am impressed by your routine. You get so much done in one day. That’s really dope.
Congratulations and thanks so much for the nomination! I’m glad you are making the most out of the quarantine and are using the time to do things- it can be pretty easy to waste it lol.
