It’s Blogmas season! We have finally come to the end of the year and that means that Christmas is literally around the corner! Ok not literally, because that would be a little weird and would mean that it was a person or a tangible object.
As this is my first year as a blogger, my dear friend and fellow blogger Olivia pretty much convinced me that it would be fun to try out Blogmas at least once in my life. I say convinced, because that is exactly how it went… the persistence in getting me from a ‘no’ to a ‘maybe’, to a ‘fine, I’ll do the 12 days of Christmas’ to a ‘how does this Blogmas thing work?’ happened so subtly that I suspect she was being sneaky about it the whole way through.
Since I have no clue what Blogmas is or how it works, I decided to ask Olivia to give me some details and thought I would share her responses with you so you know exactly what we’ll be up to in December.

What is Blogmas?
Blogmas is essentially where bloggers share Christmas content in December up until Christmas. Some people decide to do the 12 days of Blogmas, which is where you post Christmas content 12 days before Christmas and finish on Christmas day. The other is the full 25 days of Blogmas, which is where you post everyday up until Christmas day!
Why would anyone do it?
First and foremost, it’s a really fun thing to get involved in, and it’s also a challenge. Me and Shelly have been with each other every step of the way in creating our Christmas content together and it has been hard. Coming up with content that fits Christmas and around your blog niche can be difficult!
It’s also a great way to showcase your work too! You might not see the engagement benefits right away but posting Christmas content and being consistent will help drive traffic to your blog and hopefully followers too!
Does that mean each post must be about Christmas?
This is totally up to you! If you want to just share conventional Christmas content like decorating tips or Christmas recipes then you can. Some like to mix Christmas content with their blog niche. So, an example would be lifestyle topics with a Christmas twist (which is what I have done for my blogmas!)
Don’t readers get overwhelmed with all of that content?
I think if you were posting every single day all the time it would be overwhelming. As it’s a one-off thing that happens once a year I see no harm. I personally think it’s a great way to increase engagement on your site, as you will have fresh content for your readers to enjoy every day.
What can I do to prepare for blogmas?
Where do I even begin? I’d say what helped me was coming up with the ideas for all of my posts first. Write them down or save them in your drafts. Coming up with the post ideas was the hardest, the easy part was then writing them. So set a good foundation first and then the writing will just come naturally. I’d also suggest creating content to post onto your social media platforms too, such as Instagram. You will have worked so hard on your blogmas content, you at least want to make sure it gets maximum exposure!
So now that we are on the same page about Blogmas, here’s an answer to what you may be thinking:
